You thought nothing can separate you from God, right? Once saved always saved, right? Of course! But that doesn’t mean that you can’t be separated from Him or not grow in your relationship with Him. Those are things that you do have control over.
You can choose to stagnant your own walk with God.
You can choose to draw nigh to God or not. God wants us to make the first moves. We get to choose our level of Christianity.
James 4:8 Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.
The biggest thing that will separate you from God is your past.
You can stop serving the Lord, stop soul winning, stop reading your Bible and praying all because of your past. Your past can take you prisoner. You are your own worst enemy.
When you can’t forgive yourself for things in your past, you are letting it hold you back.
When you can’t forgive someone else for the things that they did to you, you are letting it hold you back.
When you can’t let go of the fear of a past mistake or embarrassment, you are letting it hold you back.
When you can’t forgive yourself for falling out of church, you are letting it hold you back.
When you can’t forgive yourself for not reading the Bible in ages, you are letting it hold you back.
When you let that man of God who fell hold you back, you are letting it hold you back.
You are holding yourself all because of the past.
You are stagnating your walk with God, your Christan growth and your happiness when you can’t let things go.
You’ve got to get over what you’ve done and what others have done to you. You can’t move forward in life if you don’t.
Forgiveness will change your life.
Forgiveness will set you free.
God is not a God in heaven holding a sledgehammer. He’s not a God who’s up there holding grudges. He’s not keeping a running tab of all the times you didn’t read your Bible or sinned against Him. He’s just there, watching over you, praying for you, longing for you to come back to Him and to trust Him with your life. He’s ready to forgive you. God doesn’t enjoy watching you ruin your life. God doesn’t enjoy seeing you miserable. God doesn’t enjoy seeing you overcome with bitterness. God wants you to find rest in Him.
Matthew 11:28-30 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.
Your past dictates your future. Whether or not you forgive yourself and others determines where you go in life and how close to God you’ll be. The past is the past and you can’t change it. It’s time to move on. But will you?
