4 Things that Sparked Joy

Check out what sparked joy in my life this week as I make a journey for joy this year.

This year I am on a journey for joy. You can read more about how this journey got started here.

Lacking joy? I’d love for you to join me on the journey for joy?

So, what sparked joy for me this week?

  1. My new Roomba! This one definitely steals the number one spot this week! I have been begging for a Roomba for over a year. I spend so much time sweeping it’s ridiculous. And I absolutely hate it. Like a lot. I would rather scrub the toilets than sweeping the floors. Probably weird but that’s I how I am. Staying on top of the sweeping when I’m doing school, blogging and everything else there is to do in a given day are nearly impossible when I have small children who create a massive load of crumbs. I knew a Roomba would help me out so much. It took a lonnnng time to convince my husband but back in March for my birthday he promised me one. This week (4 months later!!) he finally took the plunge. Can I say that this little iRobot does not disappoint? It is beyond amazing. My floors have never been so clean! I can program to clean at set times and I just love that! I love being able to do other household chores while my floors are being cleaned. It has brought me a lot of joy this week! I highly recommend that every homemaker gets one!
  2. New benches! Another big win for the week! We have a rather large butcher block island in our new kitchen. We couldn’t decide on what type of stools to purchase for it. I just happened to be on Pinterest and saw this pin for DIY farmhouse style benches. I loved them and they were the perfect size to fit with the length of our breakfast bar. I loved that they could be scooted underneath not taking up much of the walking space. I sent it to my husband and he loved them too! He got to work building them and I absolutely love how they came out. I can’t stop staring at them!! Who’s coming over?
  3. New-to-us bikes and bike rack! I’ve been asking for a bike for a few months since our Big Guy is just so fast on his that I can’t keep up with him while walking. I know that we would really enjoy family bike rides. But we just needed a bike for my husband and I. Or I needed a bike rack to go on our car so I could take them riding with friends other places. Which is something we’ve loved to do in the past. This past weekend a neighbor was having a garage sale and I was able to score 2 bikes and a bike rack for only $16!! God is so good!
  4. Kids marathon! This week our boys participated in a kids marathon and they needed us to run with them. I ran with Little Guy while my husband ran with Big Guy. I didn’t think we would do that great since I couldn’t train leading up to it. But we did better than I thought. Little Guy blew me away with how hard he was trying and his good attitude through it all. It was a fun night spending time with the boys and doing something fit and active. The race was only 1.2 miles, btw! Not too hard for the little people (and me!).

This week was a challenging week. There were many things going on in the background of our personal lives which made it very hard for me to see the good, to find the joy. I fought the feelings of being depressed, angry and frustrated, not good enough. I cried many tears and had a hard time with the weight of it all. But during one of my hardest times in a long time, God was there. He was faithful. He showed me cares, that He loves me and delights in me, and He gave more blessings than I could handle all in just one week. So while it was a hard week, I feel more blessed than I had before. Let me encourage you that when you feel alone, depressed, not good enough and angry to find the joy, to find the happiness, to choose love, to pour your hurt and hard situation out to the Lord when you can’t to anyone else. I am sure that He will wrap His loving arms around you and show you just how much He cares when it feels like no one else does. God loves you. Hold onto that. Find the joy.
