Are you blessed with the space to create a school room? But you don’t know where to start? I’m excited to share our school room for the 2016-2017 school year.
This year I had less space to work with since we moved to the other side of town. I also needed to get more creative because our school room doubles as my sewing room.
Let that encourage you – you don’t need a lot of space to create a school area! You just need some creativity.
This year I decided to put everyone’s desk in the center of the room facing each other. I did this because I think it will go well with our curriculum choice. This set up opens up discussion after we read our read aloud, science lessons or Bible. It’s been working out great for our morning time!
I decided to keep up the same Dr. Suess sayings with our memory verse chalkboard because now that we have a reader he really is starting to love them and laugh when he reads them. I also like to remind them that they do have brains in their heads when they act like they don’t. I’m sure you can relate as a homeschool mom!
Another change I made this year was condensing our calendar and weather chart.
Here is last years:
And then this year’s:
I am loving that it takes up less wall space – since I have less of it! And it was less than $20! A double win in my book.
Now that the bulletin board isn’t holding the large calendar, it will be used for displaying art work and any science projects.
Then in one corner I have all the organizational things on all the shelving. The big one is the curriculums, reading books, and extra paper.
The smaller one is all of our art supplies. We love crafts and projects, which is why we love My Father’s World! I’ve found that having supplies on hand is key for doing all the crafts involved without frustration.
We are trying out a new chore chart system, it’s in test mode because we love our DIY chore charts and they work great for non-readers. I only have 1 reader and a soon to be reader so these may be too difficult for the little two right now. But they matched our decor and included school work. I couldn’t pass up the $3 price tag in the Target dollar bin! Aren’t they cute?!
We also have our memory verse tracker and reading charts hung up by the door, this room is set up strangely with a mini hallway so this was the only space left unused. You have to be creative, ha!
There you have it! Our school room for the new year! We’ve been enjoying it a lot more than our set up from last year. Despite there being less space to work with.
