Do you feel like your Chrisitan walk is stagnant? Like your prayers are started hitting the ceiling, reading your Bible is stale and you find yourself oversleeping every Sunday morning? We all can experience seasons of what feels like a drought in our spiritual lives. But we should not stay there. Satan loves when we stay there. We need to keep increasing in our faith!
In chapter 3 of Galatians, we are seeing Paul fired up over the Galatians adding works to their salvation. He is lingering on the fact that we are not justified by the law.
The law can not save us. The law points out the fact that we are sinners, incapable of keeping the law all of the time and therefore, we are in need a Savior. A Savior who took on the curse of crucifixion to save us from hell. His love for is so deep, it’s a humbling thought that He was willing to do that so just one soul could be saved.
Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree: Galatians 3:13
We are told many times in this chapter that the just shall live by faith, that we are justified by faith alone and not our works.
But that no man is justified by the law in the sight of God, it is evident: for, The just shall live by faith. Galatians 3:11
It made me ask myself, how do I increase my faith? As Christians, we are to live by faith and grow in faith. But how do we do this?
Increasing Your Faith
The Bible is the most important source for everything we need this side of heaven. Always start here.
So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God. Romans 10:17
One powerful way to do this is to tithe. God promises to take care of you when you give Him the first 10% of your income. Do you believe Him? Even if it doesn’t look like you’ll have enough to pay all your bills that month on paper, tithe anyways and watch how God will take care of your needs. Needs, mind you, not wants. There is a big difference.
Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the Lord of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it. Malachi 3:10
One of my personal favorite ways to prove God is by getting some prayers answered. I love praying for free clothes for our children because God promises to provide our clothing. As soon as I notice that they need the next size up, I add it to my prayer list. God has been so faithful to provide in this area. Last time I did this, it took 3 hours before I got a text asking if I need boys clothes for my oldest. I was in awe over how fast God answered that prayer. He will provide for you, trust Him and watch your faith increase! Don’t wait until you’re at the end of your rope!
Go to church.
Ask God for more.
Exercise the faith you do have.
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves. James 1:22
Serve the Lord! Serve in ministry. Do something for the Lord and your faith will increase as you watch the power of God work.
Inspire yourself with stories of God’s power.
Pick up some autobiographies and biographies of amazing servants of the Lord. Read their stories and you will be encouraged at how God worked in their lives and ministry.
There are so many great books out there. I personally enjoy Corrie Ten Boom’s The Hiding Place and Hostage (this book is amazing!). I would love to read A Chance to Die: The Life and Legacy of Amy Carmichael!
There are so many stories in the Bible that you can slowly read through as well.
We’ve come full circle, increasing your faith can be as simple as picking up your Bible more. Don’t overlook it.
Your turn! How do you increase your faith? Do you have any other book recommendations? I’m always looking for good reading material!
