Making food from scratch has become a passion of mine in the recent years. As a newlywed most everything we ate was out of a box. This was how I grew up.

But as the years went on, I was determined to eat healthier. Motivated by my husbands heart condition, I was determined to find other options that didn’t break the bank. I wanted my family to have good health and more energy.

One of my all time favorite things to make from scratch is homemade bread. Is there anything else more satisfying than baking fresh bread? Whether its a sandwich bread, dinner bread or dinner rolls. The fresh aroma that fills the house creates such a warm, peaceful environment.

My kids are always asking for fresh bread to go with our dinner!

Its been nearly a year since we’ve bought store bought sandwich bread. Mind you, on the rare occasion that I forget to make bread and have nothing else to serve, I will grab a loaf for simplicity sake. But I strive for baking fresh sandwich bread for our lunches. Its healthier and more tasty!

Since life is busy being a mama. I absolutely love my bread machine to bake bread! It simplifies my life and allows me to be more efficient in my homemaking. I set it and forget it!

My bread machine is the Hitachi Bread Machine Maker . It has a dark, medium and light cycle so I can control how crusty I want the bread. And as a bonus, it cooks rice and jam as well! I highly recommend it! Its been my favorite so far from the ones I’ve had.

Some people don’t like the bread machine’s shape.  Opting to just set the machine on a dough cycle and bake in the oven for a more typical shaped loaf. Do what works best for your family! If I were ever able, I would invest in the Zojirushi BB-CEC20 Home Bakery Supreme 2-Pound-Loaf Breadmaker ! 5 Bread Machine Tips!

Tips for creating the perfect loaf of bread


Add all your wet ingredients first.


Keep the salt and the yeast away from each other.

This is especially important if you are using the timer setting! Your bread will come out flat if you combine the two!

Add the yeast last!

You wont regret it!


Don’t be afraid of the rapid cycle.

You’re bread will come out fine if you don’t use the longest setting.


For moist bread, try baking your bread overnight and allowing it to sit in the bread machine for the remainder of the night to soak back in all the moisture it let out as it cooled.

This last tip has revolutionized our sandwich bread! Its incredibly moist! Try it and thank me later!


I’ve tried so many wheat bread recipes. And the one I’m about to share is by far the best! I’ve tweaked a few recipes to make this one perfect. You’ll be glad you tried it!


Homemade Wheat Bread

2C wheat flour

1 1/2C White flour

1 3/4C warm water

1/8C honey (don’t have a 1/8c? No worries, just fill you’re 1/4c halfway!)

1tsp salt

1TBS olive oil

1tsp yeast


Add all of your wet ingredients.

Add the salt.

Add the flours.

Lastly, add the yeast.

Choose your favorite settings and enjoy the aroma of fresh bread baking for a few hours!

* You can easily use 3 1/2C of wheat flour, if that is your preference, but for the sake of being frugal we use this ratio and have found that it actually tastes so much better!
