Do you know that feeling when you’ve been out of the house all day and you just can’t wait to be home? Doesn’t it feel so good to just walk through the door, drop all of your bags and rest awhile on the couch? Or sink into bed, snuggled with a warm blanket, popcorn, and some tea to watch a movie for the evening?
Home is simply the best.
Home is where we can rest, refuel, be ourselves and connect with the people we most love.
The saying, home sweet home, is a wise saying.
Even if you aren’t out of the house all day, it’s not hard to forget how special your home is for those who live within its walls. As women, we know first hand how our work at home affects those we love. Our service in the home reaps great rewards.
If you stopped doing all the mundane tasks, your home would fall apart, wouldn’t it? It’s not going to be a place where anyone wants to be.
The work we do is the greatest of all work. We are raising the next generation. Their love for themselves and others is formed within the walls of your home. Are you raising heroes or are you raising a rebellious, entitled crew?
Selfless serving creates a lifegiving home.
6 Keys to Making Your Home the Best
The warm cozy feelings you get when you’ve been gone all day is what makes your home the best. Invest in warm and inviting throw blankets and pillows that say, “hey come get comfy and rest awhile” to anyone who enters the room. Soft music playing is always a great addition as well.
2. Pleasant Smells
Have you ever noticed how people’s homes smell? It seems like every family has their own scent. I could smell something in a store and immediately it will trigger the memory from someone else’s home. It’s funny how our sense of smell impacts us so deeply. Find pleasing aromas that your family enjoys, buy some candles or diffuse some essential oils.
Our decorative style says ‘home’ pretty instantly. A house that is put together communicates what you hold most valuable. A decorated space makes people feel like they are connecting with your family. It brings a comfort of familiarity to those who do live there. It is what makes home, home.
4. Comforting Food and Drinks
Find a few meals that your family just loves, food that they feel loved by you for putting together for them. When life gets overwhelming, always plan on making one of these meals to bring some comfort. Food is a powerful tool in communicating love. Some of our family’s favorites are homemade sauce, bread, and ranch chicken enchiladas.
Sometimes we all just need our space. Help create that for everyone in your home. Knowing that if your day has been insane but you can find rest at home is what makes home the best.
6. Someone to Talk With
Home is where you can share your heart, your pain, your struggles, your successes. Everyone should know that they have a listening ear at home waiting for them. Be that listening ear for everyone. Stop and listen, really listen to their heart. Don’t mindlessly listen while scrolling on your phone.
Is your home going to be perfect? Is it always going to be clean and ready for visitors? Are you always going to have tea and a listening ear readily available at a moments notice? Probably not. We aren’t perfect and our homes won’t be either. Sickness will invade and busy seasons will creep up, but if the fundamental keys are always in place you will have created a loving, restful, peaceful, lifegiving home. You and those who you love most will always be welcomed with that feeling of home when you open the door.
